The Strategy
The Problem

CeraVe and Konga partnered to launch a massive digital campaign celebrating Nigerian content creators and Nollywood culture. While the client provided a baseline brand template, it lacked the localized cultural depth required to truly resonate with the Nigerian audience. Furthermore, anticipating a viral response, the campaign required a robust technical architecture capable of handling thousands of concurrent users, processing heavy video submissions, and managing live voting securely without crashing.

The Solution

We engineered a custom, mobile-first web application that married premium brand identity with authentic Nigerian aesthetics. By ditching the standard template for a custom-built Next.js frontend, we delivered a lightning-fast user experience. We paired this with a bespoke, real-time Admin Dashboard that allowed the Konga team to seamlessly moderate hundreds of video entries and monitor tens of thousands of votes without breaking a sweat.

Design Thinking

Beyond the Template. When handed the initial brand guidelines, our immediate focus was on implementation and cultural translation. We asked: How do we make this feel authentically Nigerian without becoming tacky or overwhelming the CeraVe brand? Subtle Cultural Infusion. Instead of relying on loud, contrasting colors, we focused on premium, tactile aesthetics. We drew inspiration from Nollywood's red-carpet glamour and traditional Nigerian textiles. We designed custom UI components—like the Jury portrait frames—using tonal gold embroidery motifs inspired by Adire patterns and Aso Oke weaving. This provided a rich, culturally significant texture that blended perfectly with the clean, corporate blue of the primary brand. Optimizing the User Journey. With thousands of anticipated entries, the UI had to be foolproof. We designed a frictionless "Scroll-to-Agree" modal for legal compliance and streamlined the dynamic video submission forms, ensuring that even on slower mobile networks, the entry and voting processes felt instant and highly rewarding.

Technical Execution

Built for Scale & Security. The platform was built using Next.js and Tailwind CSS to guarantee a highly responsive, mobile-optimized experience. To give the client complete control, we developed a dedicated Admin Dashboard that streamlined the moderation pipeline, allowing the team to maintain a "Zero Pending Reviews" inbox despite the massive influx of creator submissions. Scaling on the Fly: The OTP Challenge. A true test of an application is how it performs under unexpected viral load. During peak campaign hours, the sheer volume of active voters triggered a bottleneck in our OTP (One-Time Password) delivery system. Because we had built a modular architecture, our team was able to instantly isolate the issue, refactor the authentication flow, and deploy a hotfix with zero system downtime—ensuring the integrity of the voting process remained flawless.

Outcome & Impact

The CerAwards platform didn't just meet expectations; it handled incredible scale flawlessly, driving massive engagement for the CeraVe brand across Nigeria.
